The IPU Executive Committee held its 300th session in Geneva, Switzerland, on 29-30 June 2026, under IPU President Dr. Tulia Ackson.
The constitutional meeting coincided with International Day of Parliamentarism, observed annually on 30 June to mark the founding of the IPU.
Delegates reviewed preparations for the 153rd IPU Assembly scheduled for October in Arusha, Tanzania. They also discussed the upcoming election of a new President to replace Dr. Ackson.
The session featured the formal handover of the Secretary General’s office. Mr. Martin Chungong passed the “keys” of leadership to Ambassador Anda Filip, elected in April in Istanbul. Her four-year term began on 1 July 2026.
Ambassador Filip is the 10th Secretary General, the first woman, and the first from Eastern Europe to lead the IPU Secretariat.
The Parliament of Tanzania congratulated Ambassador Filip and pledged continued cooperation with the IPU.
