The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Hon. Ambassador Anda Filip, has arrived in Tanzania in the early hours of today, September 30, 2026, at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) for the 153rd IPU Assembly to be held in Arusha from October 5 to 9, 2026.
Ambassador Filip was received by Tanzania's Ambassador in charge of the IPU Desk in Geneva, Hon. Hoyce Temu, together with the Chairman of the National Committee of Experts for Preparations, Mr. Daniel Eliufoo.
Ambassador Filip, a Romanian national, was elected in April 2026 in Istanbul and took office on July 1, 2026, becoming the first woman to lead the IPU Secretariat in the 137-year history of the institution.
The 153rd Assembly will be held under the theme "Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all" and will bring together more than 2,000 participants from 183 IPU member parliaments, including Speakers, Members of Parliament, Secretaries General and various officials.
