The Minister for Minerals, Hon. Anthony Peter Mavunde, has officially inaugurated the much-anticipated Madini Bonanza at the John Merlin Grounds in Dodoma, kicking off a spirited gathering that brings together institutions under the Ministry of Minerals to promote teamwork, health, and unity through sports.
Officiating the opening ceremony, Hon. Mavunde emphasized that the event goes beyond competition, symbolizing the Ministry’s commitment to building strong inter-institutional relationships and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment across the minerals sector.
“This Bonanza is more than just a sports event. It is a reflection of the solidarity, discipline, and energy that drive the success of our mineral sector,” said Hon. Mavunde. “We are building a culture of unity and wellness that strengthens our institutions and the people behind them.”
Participating institutions include the Mining Commission, State Mining Corporation (STAMICO), Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST), Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI), and the Tanzania Gemmological Centre (TGC). Teams are competing in football, netball, athletics, and traditional games.
The Mining Commission, known for its strong competitive spirit and teamwork, is among the top contenders in football and athletics. Staff members from all participating bodies have welcomed the Bonanza as a chance to step away from daily routines, interact informally, and nurture camaraderie.
The event is part of broader efforts by the Ministry to enhance employee morale, wellness, and unity as it continues to oversee the sustainable management and development of Tanzania’s vast mineral resources.
Hon. Mavunde was joined by key leaders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Eng. Yahya Samamba; Commissioner for Minerals, Dr. Abdulrahman Mwanga; Chairperson of the Mining Commission, Dr. Janet Lekashingo; and the Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Eng. Ramadhani Lwamo. Their presence underscored the significance of the Bonanza as both a celebration and a strategic team-building initiative for the minerals sector.
