The Mining Commission, in collaboration with various Government institutions and private sector stakeholders, is actively participating in the ongoing 12th Zanzibar International Trade Fair being held at Fumba, Zanzibar, to showcase a wide range of investment opportunities available in Tanzania’s mining sector.

The exhibition, held under the theme “Building Inclusive Growth through Trade and Innovation,” has provided a platform for the Mining Commission to promote opportunities in mineral exploration, mining, mineral processing and trading, as well as the supply of goods and services to mining operations.

A large number of Zanzibar residents have visited the Commission’s pavilion to learn about the contribution of the mining sector to national development, particularly its role in boosting Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment creation and individual income growth.

Mining Commission experts have outlined Tanzania’s strategic direction in strengthening sustainable mining practices and promoting value addition to mineral resources, alongside investor friendly policies, regulations and systems designed to enable citizens and investors to participate fully in the sector.

Speaking in a special interview, the Mining Commission’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Greyson Mwase, said the Commission’s main objective in participating in the fair is to educate the public on how they can directly engage in the mineral value chain and benefit economically.

“The mining sector is not only for large scale investors. There are numerous opportunities for small scale miners, entrepreneurs, youth and women to participate through small scale mining, mineral processing, mineral trading and the supply of goods and services to mining sites,” Mwase said.

He added that the Commission is encouraging citizens to apply for Primary Mining Licences (PMLs), establish lapidary units for cutting and polishing gemstones, and engage in mineral beneficiation activities involving gold, gemstones and industrial minerals in order to enhance value addition before marketing.

Mwase also emphasised the importance of utilising officially established mineral markets and buying centres, which enable miners and traders to sell their minerals transparently and in accordance with daily indicative prices issued by the Commission based on global market trends.

On local content participation, he said the Commission is fully implementing the Local Content Regulations in the mining sector, which aim to promote employment for Tanzanians, procurement of locally available goods and services, as well as skills and technology transfer.

“Catering, transportation, fuel supply, construction, security and other related services present huge business opportunities for Tanzanians. We encourage them to register their businesses, obtain the required permits and build technical capacity to benefit more,” he explained.

He further noted that Tanzanian youth have significant employment and entrepreneurship prospects in the mining sector, particularly those trained in science, engineering, environmental studies, accounting, communications and machinery operations.

The 12th Zanzibar International Trade Fair is scheduled to run until January 16, 2026. Members of the public are invited to visit the Mining Commission pavilion to obtain information materials, receive guidance and explore the fast growing investment opportunities within Tanzania’s mining sector.
