Staff of the Mining Commission, in collaboration with the Njombe Resident Mines Office, actively participated in the national celebrations marking International Workers’ Day (May Day) held on 1 May 2026 at Lunyanywi Grounds in Njombe Town Council.

The celebrations were officially graced by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, bringing together workers from various sectors across the country to honour the contribution of employees to national development while deliberating on workers’ welfare and the improvement of working conditions.

Mining Commission staff joined the official parade alongside other public and private institutions, demonstrating the unity and commitment of workers within the mining sector in supporting Government efforts to strengthen the national economy through sustainable utilisation of mineral resources.

This year’s theme, “Decent Work is a Strong Pillar for Sustainable Development in the Implementation of National Vision 2050,” emphasised the promotion of dignified employment, protection of workers’ rights and enhancement of their contribution towards achieving the country’s long-term development goals.

International Workers’ Day is commemorated annually worldwide as a platform to recognise the vital role of workers in socio-economic development and to promote safe, fair and conducive working environments.
